Bad Product
This product has some serious mounting issues on a mac. It takes almost 5 minites to mount. Secondly even with the firewire the transfer speeds are 10 MB/min. From what I know it should be at least 50MB/sec. I have an SSD installed in my mac. So I know that the bus speed is high for my computer. Therefore there is something wrong with the drive. Then the caption perpetually says "VIDEOS 09". I have no clue what does that mean or how to get rid of that, since the users manual does not describe it. However, this is a minor issue. The major one is the load time which is just ridiculous. I was not willing to try another WD product and experiment. So I went with the Toshiba Canvio and it works super.

The best yet
After years of using LaCie Rugged drives, I've switched to these drives partly because they're smaller and lighter for travel. It's also conenient to Velcro them to my laptop. I do a film show so need the FireWire 800 for speed. It's been impossible to find anything but USB drives in retail stores. Also the software included gives easy access to see how your memory is being used I.e. Video, photos, music breakdowns. You can also digitally label the drive on the outside.

My Passport Studio is not what I wanted
My nature of business requires me to constantly back up the files because I am answerable to my clients if there is any loss of data. So I was looking for a very reliable hard drive. Bought the Western Digital My Passport Studio after much research as it had the USB 2, and Firewire 400/800. This multiple interface option turned out to be the deciding factor in purchasing this drive. The display on the front of the device helps in labeling the hard drive and therefore it is not necessary to remember what is stored in the hard drive.

When I connect to the Firewire port I was a little disappointed because it was slow. Perhaps I was expecting too much out of it? I need constant and auto back ups but I find that the software provided by WD is not what I wanted because there are not many options to personalize it according to my needs. A USB 3 could have been a welcome inclusion.

Just what I needed
This is the best companion for Mac, its sleek, professional looking and best of all it supports Time Machine without missing a beat.

I love the display, its great to know at all times what your usage is without having to plug it in, that was always a pain for my old HDDS.

Overall this is a great product, I've owned many WD products before, they are always top notch!

Great product!!!
I've had this product for a few months now and I have only had good experiences with it. It is super small and light weight and is perfect for traveling. having the 800 plug does make it faster, however it is still not as fast as a hard drive that you plug in (which is to be expected).

Never the less this is a great product Western Digital is a reliable company to buy from.
