No 3d
this tivo is ruined by the fact that it does not support 3d. wait for the next. 3d is comming soon everywhere. I have the tv and player and 3d is incredible. This tivo is useless.

Up Front Cost, Monthly Fees AND Advertising!!!
The Tivo Premiere technology and user interface are nice and the ability to use it to stream movies from a media center PC was why I went with the Tivo - but I disappointed. It often takes several seconds to drill down in menus when I expect almost immediate response. I was very surprised and disappointed that I cannot configure away options in the menus that I don't care about. We don't use our TV to watch Netflix or any of the other streaming services (the SD video quality just doesn't make it for movies), so it would be nice to be able to remove that menu option.
I was most disappointed by the advertising and placement of paid material on the system (akin the a PC's crapware) that I have no control over. The "Showcases" featured prominently are a great example -- advertising that I don't want and that annoys me and that AFAIK I can't get rid of. I paid a bunch of money up front for this system, I have to pay a monthly fee even if I don't want their program guide and I'm STILL stuck with advertising.
I had planned on having three systems in our house for media players, but the monthly fees make that option unattractive (and I can get what I was after using Hauppage MediaMVPs for a lot less up-front cost). I still would have gone with the Tivo even with the monthly fees and up-front cost just for the sake of user interface consistency, but the stupid advertising philosophy tipped the balance. Sorry Tivo, if you want to push advertising then drop the monthly fee. If you want the monthly fee then drop the advertising (and unlock the system so that I can configure it!)

Broken equipment, terrible customer service
We were sent two faulty boxes in a row and then charged anyway! When we complained we were told we would be taken to collection. It was insulting. We're using ATT Uverse now and it's great (and cheaper).

Would Be 5 Stars if HD Interface Didn't Lag
This was my first TiVo although I've used it and am familiar with the interface. I received the TiVo Premiere for free with the purchase of Samsung LN40C550 40-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LCD HDTV (Black). This was the TiVo I wanted because I do not subscribe to cable. This is one of the TiVos that work without cable and may be used with an OTA antenna.
Setting up the machine was easy. Talking to the customer service rep was almost painful. I tried signing up online and there was a problem, and so I called their customer service line...unfortunately. The gentleman assisting me asked me why "San Francisco" was spelled with a "c" instead of an "s" as in "San Fransisco" when he was unable to locate my city. A wasted 30 minutes of my life later, I was ready to go.
Depending on your TV, you will need a good antenna in order to receive signals to the channels. I believe all newer TiVos have dual tuners, so you won't have to worry about not being able to watch one show while recording another. You will need an ethernet port close by or purchase a Wireless Adapter if you want to recieve updated schedules of shows.
It does connect to Netflix, Amazon on Demand, and a few other features. Although, I have not tried Netflix, Amazon on Demand is slow to download. An hour TV show took almost three hours to download. I'm hoping Netflix won't be as slow once I activate it.
My one gripe is that I wish the HD menu would work as smoothly as the SD menu. It has a lot of new features I would like to try and have available such as the discovery bar and the small bar underneath "My Shows" that lets you know the amount of available space you have. Because of the slowness of the HD menu, I've resorted to using the SD menu, which works fine, but it seems like a waste, especially when the new remote has four dedicated buttons for the HD menu.
Other than that, I do like the TiVo set-up and the ease of use. Fix the HD menu and it'd be a Five-star product.

I've missed you...
A little over one year ago I upgraded to HDTV and decided to use my cable provider's DVR as opposed to buying a new HD Tivo. Throughout the entire time I missed many of the features and conveniences that Tivo provides. The developers of Tivo clearly have paid attention to detail and it has not been copied well by others. I decided I had given the other DVR more than a fair chance and I still missed my Tivo. I am about one month in to using my Tivo Premiere with wireless service and I am not sure why I waited so long. I am more than satisfied and the product has only gotten better with the redesign. Welcome home, Tivo!!
