The ultimate alarm clock
I got this as cool alarm clock for my bed room. For the low price, this device is outstanding. I think people like comparing everything to the iPhone / iPad. This is a really cool gadget. If your in the market for an iHome or some ipod dock, save up your money, and get the Dash. Apple doesn't make alarm clocks, I like the concept of the Dash, for what it does, it is amazing. I would not use this as tablet pc replacement, but more as bedroom hub.

Update: 7/27/2010: I still find this gadget to be awesome, it makes my bedroom more lively. The only bug I noticed was adding apps, requires you to reset it in order for it to accept the new apps, other than that I would recommend it. I brought this after the software update so all the bugs were probably gone. I really like how it tells you the time in other time zones as well your time zone, I would recommend getting this over the Bose Alarm clock.

Sony Dash - Not Ready for Prime Time
The Sony Dash is more sizzle than steak. It has the typical Sony look, but without the usual Sony functionality. It does not accept commands well (it hangs). It does not receive internet radio well (CBS Stations - Several Hundred). It does not program easily (take a lesson from Tivo). The display is good, although the touch screen is inconsistant in the response. The customer support was abismal; the person was difficult to understand and it was as though he had never heard of the product let alone supported it. There are a number of apps that seem to be stuck and cannot be deleted (I don't want FaceBook - make it go away). This took me several hours to get the Dash to start working and I had to power cycle it around a dozen times to get the changes including deletions to hold.

Such a dissapointment.

Not Ready for Primetime...

Almost There, But Not Yet
I was looking to replace the old AM/FM/TV band radio in my kitchen. Ever since the digital transition, the tv band no longer works on the old radio anyway. The Dash, however, does not stream any traditional AM or FM radio stations. It offers only Pandora and Slacker, which in my view aren't genuine radio stations. They don't offer news and talk, like my favorite New York station, WNYC.
The Dash also does not offer video streams from mainstream news sources like ABC, NBC, and CBS. For the news, it seems mostly to offer headlines and some text. But who really wants to read via a device like this in the kitchen or the bedroom? If you're like me, in the kitchen you want to be able to move around while listening to the audio and glancing at the screen from time to time. In the bedroom, you want to wake up to news audio, not read news headlines on a screen after you wake up.
I do really like the Dash's ability to stream Netflix videos for those times when I am able to give the screen my full attention. My Roku box in the living room should be the model for the Sony Dash. The Roku streams Netflix as well as a wide variety of radio stations and tv news programs from ABC, NBC, CBS, and other news sources. I hope that Sony will soon be offering free apps for the Dash that can do these things too. Then it would be a great device for the kitchen or the bedroom and well worth the 0.00 MSRP.

Previous reviews are rubbish...
I got one of these last week and have been using it with the latest software....

Wifi signal is fine, I am not sure what kind of router the previous people have used but there are ZERO issues with mine and I have a secure network with MAC address filtering enabled. The unit DOES HAVE one headphone and one USB port under a little rubberized cover on the side. I have no clue what the previous reviewer was afraid of "breaking" on the housing... Wacky! Netflix streaming works awesome too! It is like a 7in TV on your nightstand when you have it running and the audio is even decent. To add other things I like is the waking up to Pandora radio, YouTube player is basic and works well... Only thing that would make it better is a battery and a internet browser but I understand it was designed to not be mobile.

Honestly, if you have the need or want to get streaming netflix, weather, news, radio at your bedside then pick one up. If you do not like it you can always return it. It looks like Sony is still improving the device since it has only been out for a few months and numerous fixes/updated have been released...

Don't expect this thing to be a netbook or a iPad but it is a great little device to add to your bedside that does a bunch of cool stuff and more are in development.

Good concept; network problems a deal-breaker, poor interface
Bought in May 2010 to replace my radio alarm clock and allow me to pick up my emails, calendar, etc.

Pros
1) Very nice alarm clock; customizable alarms are great; night clock is very clever
2) New internet radio streaming a huge plus for people looking to listen to their favorite station
3) Expanding apps (as above) gives plenty of room for improvement
4) Good hardware/sound/finish as I'd expect for Sony

Cons
1) Network reception is poor and drops every 3-4 minutes in locations where a Blackberry and laptops show strong signals (Dash works fine when I move it within 10 feet of the router).
2) Was surprised to find no USB and headphone jack. They're current covered by the plastic frame and it's unclear whether I'm supposed to break the frame to access them
3) Dash user interface is clunky, and feels like it was written by a hardware engineer, instead of a good software firm
-- takes far too many steps to do simple things
-- screen is cluttered with icons which are impossible to remove/customize
-- no way to jump to the 3-4 things that most people like to do
-- website could use some help from a good UI designer
4) Select apps seem persistently buggy
-- gmail app still doesn't shows any emails after May 4; have removed and reinstalled several times and the same date shows up
-- pandora was tougher to set up than I expected

Summary: This was a 0 replacement for a digital Sony alarm clock radio, that was supposed to let me check emails, calendar, radio first thing in the morning. The network problems have been a deal-breaker and rendered it useless and I'm using it as a simple alarm clock. Without a radio.
