Powerful New Microarchitecture Eliminates Slowdown
The i7 family is Intel's flagship processor, and for good reason. With the i7 family, Intel engineers invented a revolutionary new style of microarchitecture. They replaced the front side bus--a longtime staple of processor design--with a new technology called QuickPath Interconnect (QPI). Using QPI, the Intel Core i7-930 processor achieves unprecedented levels of bandwidth, and can use its four computing cores to their maximum potential.

To put it simply, users will enjoy faster and more streamlined processing than ever before. Your computer will handle multiple projects and applications without the slowdown you'd experience with a lesser processor.

Extremely intensive programs like high-definition media editors will run more smoothly and responsively. And you'll be able to experience next-generation games without frame-rate hiccups and slowdowns.

New Technologies Boost Performance
The Intel Core i7-930 processor also makes use of several other cutting-edge technologies:

  • Turbo Boost Technology allows the processor to run up to 133 MHz faster when it's operating below power/thermal limits.
  • Hyper-threading Technology enables more efficient use of processor resources, making the most of highly threaded software like media players and next-generation games.
  • Smart Cache Memory increases available RAM resources, leading to less lag while multi-tasking.
Media Editing and Sharing Easier than Ever
Whether editing high-definition videos, touching up family photos, or splicing up music, the Intel Core i7-960 processor provides the processing power needed. The processor's four cores are optimized to keep up with the most advanced digital editing software. It also accelerates DVD encoding and compression, allowing you to easily share your HD home videos with everyone.

Unparalleled Gaming Performance
With the advent of next-generation games, PC gaming is more immersive than ever. The latest games take advantage of multi-threaded programming, allowing for more realistic graphics, physics, and artificial intelligence (AI). But you need more than just a good graphics card with high GPU output to fully experience all these effects. Underlying the visual realism and advanced AI scripts are thousands of high-speed calculations that your CPU must process.

Fortunately, the Intel Core i7-930 processor is specifically designed to handle these calculations. Using multi-thread architecture, it has the ability to process thousands of graphical characteristics at once, resulting in a smooth and lag-free experience. Intel worked closely with CryTek -- the developers of the advanced game engine behind such games as Crysis and Far Cry -- to guarantee that gamers have an immersive and lifelike experience.

The Intel Core i7-930 processor is backed by a three-year limited warranty.

Awesome Processor
cutted my rendering time from 1 hour to 8 minutes great thing rendering 4k videos in no time just awesome!

Great Deal!!
When the Core i7's first came out I had the Core 2 Quads and was not sure about making the change. First the price to enter was too high and I was happy. I then switched over to the Core i7860 which I did see a greatly imporved performance! I do not use the Turbo Boost feature as I want to make sure that everything is running on full power all of the time.

Once I read about the 930 and I saw the cant's miss price if picked up locally, I did the math and jumped on it! I sold my 860 part AND picked up an extra 4GB's RAM all at no extra cost to me!! Is there a difference between to two? Yes. First, the 930 comes in a much larger box as the fan is larger. The chip is physically larger than the 860 as well. Is it faster? Yes, but I am not sure if it is because of the extra RAM or if it is just faster. If could be due to the QPI and extra RAM bandwidth as well. It is faster and worth the upgrade.

I used a Gigabyte socket 1156 before with USB 3.0 but I could not use it without sacrificng my PCIe 16 lane thing. With this chip, you CAN use all of the newst features without worries! You can even do full speed SLI or Crossfire (I have not tried it and may not until video editing software uses them) as well.

The swap was the easiest MB transfer that I have ever done. Since the brands were the same, it was just a matter of taking it out and putting the new one in. I had a few issues in regards to drives, but Windows 7 found all except for the LAN and NEC USB drivers. This chip uses more power, but my PC is cool. I did a little test run on DVD encodes and I see a difference, but I did not truly put it through it's paces yet, but so far so good. 12GB's of RAM is not a bad thing to have either...

UPDATE: I just did a defragmentation on 3 HD's. Normally I do five at a time and it could take an hour. All three (500GB or better, almost filled) took less than ten minutes with all but the most fragmented and largest (1TB) taking the longest! I would say that this is a big difference!

Also, Windows Index Experience rated my same SSD a 5.9 with the i7 860, now it is a 6.9! The graphics (with the same card and driver) jumped a point each to a 7.3, from 7.2. The CPU score remained the same at 7.4. After reading forums, I expected it to go t 7.5. Moving up a level makes a difference.

Fantastic CPU
Fantastic and great value CPU.
If you want to save money, check Micro Center online, they are selling this exact boxed model for 9.99 plus your local applicable tax. This is only in-store pickup, so check to see if there is a store near you.

Best value for a high-end pc right now
I've owned a i7-920 for a few years now and have enjoyed the speed, power, and value it has brought to my system. I've been custom-building PCs for about 15 years now and couldn't have been happier with that chip. However, I noticed that the i7-930 was on sale locally for a can't miss price, so I quickly picked it up and sold off my old 920. Now, I know that there is only a 140mhz difference between the two, but there's more to it than that. Most tech-enthusiast review sites have reported that the 930 can be a heavy overclocker; surpassing the 920 by quite a bit. If that's important to you, spend a few extra bucks and get this processor.

The Intel fan is ok - much better than the clangers that Intel provided in the past and it's relatively quiet. I'd still recommend that you also invest in a better fan/heatsink as I can't stress how important it is to keep your system cool...and QUIET. I just purchased a Zalman CNPS10x Quiet, which should drop the temp down 20C and should be whisper-quiet. I'll post a link to that review when I'm able to test it out.

My computer specs: i7-930, Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R mb, 6gb DDR3 ram, Nvidia 260 video card. According to the Win7-64 "Windos Experience Index", the cpu gets a 7.5, whereas the i7-920 got a 7.4. Not much of a difference, so consider that when looking at the prices between the two.

Powering Creativity
I chose the 930 because of it's price/performance balance. It can easily be overclocked to 4.0+ GHz and runs cool at stock speed. And the quad-core technology works great with my Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate OS. Go Intel or go home.
